Increase "Good Hair Days" and Beat the Humidity This Summer
Jun 23rd 2026
Humidity, for most people, is one of the greatest enemies of the 'good hair day' phenomenon. If you're reading this, then you can probably totally identify with this theme! I've experienced years of witnessing the effects of humidity on my own hair - and know that my naturally wavy, frizz-prone hair thanks to my half Irish roots, can behave like night and day depending on the moisture levels in the air.
Thankfully, there are some fairly easy ways to combat the effects of humidity on your hair. Simple alterations in your haircare routine can make a world of difference.
What is Humidity Anyway?
Think of humidity as the moisture, or water, saturation in the air around you. Humid air tends to feel heavy, and because it has a high saturation of tiny water molecules, you will feel it on your skin, and your hair will absorb it.
When you're hair absorbs the moisture, especially if it's highly porous due to chemical treatments or blonding, or naturally absorbent, it will swell. When it swells, you may see broken pieces reaching out from the crown and a generally 'bigger' look.

Beat the Humidity with These Easy Ideas
Silk Night Time Hair Cap
If you don't yet have a night time hair cap made of silk material, then it's time to invest in one. These caps help deflect the humidity, and also keep the hair in place if you're a restless sleeper. They reduce friction from the pillow case and also can help with static electricity, which can cause unruly hair as well. I got one as a gift and found this dual-purpose humidity protection a big bonus!
Blow Your Hair Dry ALL THE WAY
One of the biggest mistakes I make, and I suspect others do as well, is to not fully blow dry my hair. Let's face it, washing, conditioning, and then having to blow out your hair can be kind of a drag. I can't tell you how excited I get knowing it's not a 'wash day', which is ironic given the business I founded offers two flagship haircare products!
Why should you make sure you blow dry your hair thoroughly during the summer months? Well, if you don't, you're leaving excess moisture in your hair, which will just lend itself to more frizz on high humidity days. If you feel a little dampness left in your hair after it's cooled a bit from the dryer (sometimes that happens, you don't know it's not dry all the way until it's cooled off) then go back and blow it dry until no dampness remains.
Not only is this healthier for your scalp, which can get itchy from the potential fungal growth that excess dampness allows, it will also be a powerful ally in preventing frizz and unruliness. It just will make for a much smoother, flatter surface whether you wear your hair straight or wavy. It will reflect the light better, and you will get maybe another day out of it looking pretty great if you take the extra couple minutes to dry thoroughly.
It doesn't hurt to also make sure you're using a high quality hair dryer with smoothing ionic features - they really can make a difference. And the higher quality, ionic dryers also tend to dry the hair faster, reducing the need for long exposure to high heat which helps boost hair health and reduce potential heat damage. Use Products with the Top-Rated Sealant Moisturizing Oils
There are a few oils that rank consistently high in working as a tandem moisture-increasing agent and sealant. What this means is you get a twofer effect in your frizz-protection regimen. You get increased, deeply penetrating moisture infusion, along with a sealant effect.
The sealant effect works to seal the protective layer around the hair strands called the cuticle. Sealing the cuticle is key in sealing OUT the humidity and keeping your hairstyle intact and fresh.
What are These Top Rated Oils?
Coconut Oil - Known for its humectant abilities, but also has a reputation for helping replenish protein loss because of its unique ability to penetrate the shaft and fill the 'holes' left by protein loss. If your hair is porous, then coconut oil is a non-negotiable ingredient.
Argan Oil - This one is the golden wonder. And it's even better when it's minimally processed. Many argan oils are highly processed to remove the fragrance that some noses find mildly offensive (I personally like it). Our argan oil is raw.
It it not processed and retains it's natural fragrance, but also has retained all of the components (vitamin e, fatty acids) that rose it to popularity as a must-have all around beauty oil for hair and skin care. Related: Organic, Raw Argan Oil Benefits
Jojoba Oil - Jojoba oil is an interesting one, and you wouldn't necessarily think of it for this particular list. Its reputation is mostly as a safe oil for oily skin because of its ability to mimic our natural skin oils (sebum) so closely.
It also has potent anti-fungal qualities. Guess what benefits from anti-fungal qualities? Your scalp! So it's an excellent addition for scalp health, and because of it's wax-like structure, it is a perfect protectant against humidity due to the ability to coat the hair without weighing it down.
