Heated Hair Styling Brush on Rose Background

We all want more "good hair days". But who doesn’t want more time to do other things in life? Time is among one of the most precious assets, often cited as the most precious commodity we have as humans behind financial means (aka money).

One of the things I really can’t stand spending time on is my hair styling, which is pretty ironic considering I felt passionate enough about cultivating healthy, vibrant hair to create the Natural Shine Enhancing Shampoo and Deep Hydration Conditioner!

This is one of the reasons, especially post-Covid, and still working my day job from home, that my hair style and overall energy and time spent on the appearance of my hair, has suffered. Related: 3 Part Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Review

So what if you could save precious minutes or even hours by cutting down your hair styling time dramatically, while still getting at least passable results. In this sense, by passable I mean it’s better than the “just rolled out of bed” look. And that, especially as I get older, is good enough!

Large Hot Rollers

You can buy yourself a decent set of large hot rollers, actually they’re called jumbo, for a pretty reasonable price. For under $30, you can get yourself a 5-roller set of jumbo heated rollers. They’re easy to use, and once they are heated up, they only take about 10-15 to set your hair.

The best part is, they do the work for you. While you’re busy doing other things, rollers do the same work that a large barreled curling iron can do in less than half the time. The only time you spend on them is putting them in your hair, which takes maybe 1-2 minutes total.

Start at the ends of the hair, and my advice is to only roll your hair up about halfway. Don’t roll them all the way up to your scalp or you’ll have an odd bump near the scalp. If you roll them halfway up, you’ll get a nice volume and defrizzing/depuffing effect that can be set by a quick few spritzes of hair spray or a high quality sea or beach-wave spray.  Related: Why Coconut Oils is Excellent in Haircare

Read on in our Part II of this installment for more about picking a beach wave spray though, I avoid one particular type of these wave sprays because of an undesired side effect on certain hair types.

Straightening Heated Combs and Brushes

Heated styling combs and brushes have become much more popular as of late. I’ll be honest that I hadn’t even heard of them until I was doing a random search and came across a few people who lauded hair styling combs as the best way to time on straightening your hair. Many people praised these heat styling straightening combs as the best time saver that’s come along recently.

So I figured I would give it a shot. Although I personally like to wear my hair wavy. I think it’s difficult to make naturally wavy hair really look “good” straight without some sort of chemical intervention. I’m of the belief that if you have hair that tends to go a certain way, you should probably just go with it as it will have the most natural outcome. But I wanted to see how this would work. So I bought a heated hair straightening comb that I would say was a middle of the road option. Not too pricey, but not suspiciously cheap either. I liked the ease of use, and I will say it did straighten my hair extremely quickly.

The downside is that it left my hair looking dull and lifeless. It definitely straightened my hair effectively, but at the cost of actually making it look unhealthy without the help of a shining spray or additive oils. I’ve always had a hard time with straightening styling tools, so this did not surprise me. Even the most expensive flat irons would leave my hair looking dull and dry. The only thing that still works ok to straighten my hair without this side effect is a large barreled curling iron, used with a straightening motion.

Stay tuned for our next installment in this series of time saving hair styling tricks. Who knows, you may get the down low on something that will save you precious hours for years to come.
