Scalp Health | Part II

Mar 24th 2023

This is a continuation of Scalp Health Part I where we talked about all the fun symptoms that go along with fungal (yeast) overgrowth on the scalp. These include itching, dandruff, scalp softness, the reasons behind the scalp's susceptibility to these types of issues and more.  This time we get into specifics about why maintaining a regular wash schedule can be crucial in ongoing scalp (and hair) health.

Shampoo Schedule and the Right Cleansing Product for Healthy Yeast Balance

To put some context around this continuation of Scalp Health Part I, this is a personal story about scalp health that is through the lens of myself and my husband. We both struggled with dandruff and itchy scalp for years before we “got it right”. “Getting it right” incidentally was the creation of AuraSensory and one of our flagship products – the Natural Shine Enhancing Shampoo!

We left off in part I talking about my opinion that finding the right shampooing schedule seems to be key for scalp health. At least it is for us. Some skin types and hair types may be able to go longer than us. We have found that sticking to a fairly consistent schedule (we deviate sometimes, that’s going to happen in life) of every other day is key to our scalp and hair health.

The Right Shampoo

So, this next assertion is going to sound promotional, and it certainly is, but using anything other than our Natural Shine Enhancing Shampoo does seem to lend itself to these symptoms more. We were experimenting with switching off the shampoo and using a more traditional shampoo here and there, simply to utilize the ‘switcharoo” method so your hair doesn’t get used to something.

We found that when we switched off the Shine Enhancing Shampoo, we were experiencing these symptoms sooner than if we had used it. It makes sense since there are several naturally astringent and anti-fungal ingredients included like ACV, oils of rosemary cedar and grapefruit, coconut oil (yes, coconut oil is very anti-fungal, who knew!) and clary sage oil.

Never under estimate not only the cleansing power of these oils for the hair itself, but also for the scalp. They really help keep the scalp clear of yeast overgrowth, which happens to also make the hair feel much lighter, bouncier, and more able to push away from the scalp to create more volume for a lightweight, bouncy look.

Wash Frequency + The Right Shampoo = Optimal Scalp Health

All told, these two variables are the winning combination to optimal scalp health. Not surprisingly, these two variables also lead to the healthiest hair possible. When your scalp is healthy and full of life, your hair always follows suit.

Not only does this create the foundation for healthier hair, but it may also help facilitate healthy or accelerated hair growth. Creating a fertile ground for new hair growth begins with a healthy scalp. Using the right products, timed correctly for optimal frequency for your hair and scalp type, can make a whole world of difference in the health, vitality and growth of your hair, and well-being of your scalp. All said and done, a healthy clean scalp really just makes you feel energized - it really can make you feel like a new person after a long hard day, or as a restart to a bad day. Call me crazy, but a clean head of hair actually makes for a better night’s sleep too. Sure, it may be psychosomatic, but I think I’m not alone in that opinion.

Even this little psychic boost is worth it! But don’t take our word for it, you have to try it and see if it works for you. None of this stuff is a one size fits all solution, but it sure can be a guidepost to getting to the optimal solution for your individual needs.
