Do your lips feel like they are going to crack fairly often, causing you to avoid making large movements like a big smile or yawn? Do you go through periods where your lips seem to be chronically chapped, even though you feel like you’re constantly applying lip balms or salves? Do your lips experience a burning or tingling sensation followed by severe dryness, chapping or painful cracking and blisters? Does the area around your lips frequently look red and feel chapped?

Are you tired of applying lip balms constantly, only to have your lips seem to instantly soak it in and need more instantly? You may have chronic fever blister (also known as cold sores) outbreaks occurring on and around your mouth and lip area if so.  Our new Herbal Relief Lip Balm is designed to target all of the above, and works as a natural remedy for this nagging and often disconcerting problem. This balm is also great for everyday use, and you can completely replace your everyday multipurpose lip balm with this product if you so choose. It is gentle and moisturizing, with the targeted ingredients needed to keep lips healthy, hydrated and free of these uncomfortable and often disconcerting flare ups.

Chronic cold sores are a lot more common than most people think.  They are caused by the herpes simplex virus, for which there unfortunately is no absolute cure and once exposed, it remains latent in the body for good, flaring up when triggered. Everyone can get it – including children since it is fairly contagious. It has been estimated that quite a large percentage - some estimate as high as eighty percent of more, of the population has some form of the virus (commonly referred to as HSV), the symptoms just depend on how it expresses itself in each individual. One of the most common is unfortunately on a very visible facial feature, the lips and surrounding area.

Some may have it and not experience outbreaks that affect the lips and surrounding are, others have periodic outbreaks occur at varying frequency. Those who have struggled with it for years know the onset of one of these unfortunate flare ups as soon as it starts, often with a tingling and tight feeling of dryness and irritation - almost as if the lips have been sunburned.

You may experience outbreaks throughout life when the virus is active – particularly during periods of stress, hormonal fluctuations and suppressed immunity.  The good news is, there are natural oils that can really help to not only relieve the discomfort and dryness, but that also have shown tons of promise in inhibiting these inconvenient outbreaks from happening in the first place, and quickly neutralizing them if the cycle has already begun.

This herbal treatment balm is gentle and protective and can be used every day as your regular lip balm. Just like our other lip balms, you will not find any petroleum  (related - why avoid petroleum?), and no artificial flavors, sweeteners or colors. It’s a dual-purpose balm in that it helps to maintain healthy, hydrated, blister and crack free lips while also serving as your daily lip moisturizer. Simply apply any time you feel your lips need hydration.

There are two main active ingredients in this soothing herbal balm that help to quickly neutralize and keep in check these outbreaks. Not only that, this balm is super soothing and provides instantaneous relief once applied. What are these highly bioactive ingredients?

Lemon Balm, also known as Melissa essential oil – This oil is very powerful in helping treat and neutralize fever blisters. You may recognize the name as it is a fairly common herb that is also used in calming teas. The essential oil of lemon balm is one of the higher priced oils since it takes a lot of the raw herb to produce a small amount of oil (hence, the higher price compared to our other lip balms).

It has a very bright, lemony scent with green/astringent undertones. If you’ve ever walked by a patch of lemon balm on a warm summer day, you undoubtedly were surrounded by its fragrant, uplifting scent. Lemon Balm oil has demonstrated properties that reduce healing time during outbreaks, and also helps to avoid the onset of new blisters with its naturally antiviral properties.

Lemon balm also happens to taste really wonderful when steeped to make a hot tea. When taken orally, lemon balm has an anti-stress and anxiety effect. Since one of the main triggers for HSV outbreaks is periods of high stress and anxiety, this can really target flare ups two fold by addressing the internal causes while simultaneously helping to suppress the viral replication that results in blisters and severe chapping.

Peppermint oil – soothes, heals, cools and has some neutralizing effects on the virus due to its antimicrobial and antiviral properties. Studies indicate it is helpful in preventing recurring outbreaks. Paired with Lemon Balm oil, it makes for a potent anti-blister, anti-cracking and healthy lip powerhouse! Not to mention both of these oils bring their own elements of cooling and relief, all while maintaining smooth, healthy moisture.

Beeswax – a naturally protective barrier that helps seal in moisture. Also has antimicrobial properties and will not irritate lips like some other protective waxes.

Ingredients: Beeswax, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Castor Oil, Melissa (Lemon Balm) Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, Vitamin E, Stevia Leaf Extract
