Hair Styling Tools Hanging in SalonThis is a continuation of Time Saving Hair Styling Cheats Part I which focuses on tools to help decrease styling time. We covered a few big time savers and favorite shortcuts when it comes to something that can otherwise suck up hours of your time in the grand scheme of things – hair styling!

Who doesn’t need more time? I’ve never heard anyone that is pre-retirement say they just had too much time on their hands. Most are looking for creative ways to get more of this precious modern day commodity back in their life. These time saving cheats for getting the best looking hair you possibly can even on a “bad hair day”, will get you more time, while still feeling good about your style!

Spray on root touchup

It sounds silly, but you can use a spray-paint like product to touch up your roots. It’s really effective as a short-term solution between colorings. It literally comes in a can that is a small version of a spray paint can, and it comes out just like spray paint.

You can also opt for root touch up powder. You simply apply this almost as you’d apply a dry shampoo that is in powder form, just applying to the roots. Either of these options is a quick, time saving fix for when your grey or other colored roots are showing and you need them to blend in til you can get a more permanent fix.

Dry Shampoo

Dry Shampoo is something a lot of people swear by as a time saver. You supposedly can go longer between hair washes by using dry shampoo. It’s true, but the health of your scalp may ultimately suffer. The idea behind dry shampoo is to soak up the sebum that naturally accumulates when you go too long between washings.

By soaking up the excess sweat, sebum, and other oily substances that accumulate over time on an unwashed scalp, you give your hair more body and lift and can at least visually mimic the look of freshly washed hair.

Freshly washed hair naturally has more lift at the roots and this results in better volume and more flexibility when styling. Hair that has gone unwashed too long can tend to look stringier, duller and flatter. It may be really difficult to get bouncy, healthy looking body until it is washed again. Dry shampoo helps to fake this look til you can get in the shower for your next wash!

Beach Wave Spray

Beach wave sprays, or body-building sprays are one of my favorite time savers. They can really help your hair look better until you’re ready for your next wash and condition. Related: How Often to Condition Hair? Why is that? Because they add lots of healthy-looking body and can often also add the shine that is missing when you really need to wash and condition your hair.

My opinion is that beach wave sprays work best when they are used on dry and somewhat dirty hair that’s been unwashed for about a full day. This seems to be where beach wave sprays really shine. By adding these sprays to a dry pallet, you’re allowing them to add texture and volume to hair that already is somewhat coated in the elements (dirt, dust, pollen, other environmental debris).

So the spray can really help mold and shape the hair into whatever you scrunch it up to look like. It’s a brilliant product and a huge time saver for when you really don’t want to spend the time to wash, condition, and blow dry your mane. After all, who loves doing that all the time. These products can all really save you on the time it takes to properly maintain your hair, no matter what your age or hair type!
