Argan Oil : Beautiful Benefits
Argan oil is an exotic, earthy and somewhat nutty-smelling oil which
is also known as “Moroccon oil” since it comes from the argan tree
which is native to Morocco. Many times it will not smell like much of
anything if it is highly purified. It seems to be the fad of the moment
in many haircare products (for good reason) as men and women
discover the multiple therapeutic benefits for the beauty of their hair. We use argan
oil as one of the main conditioning ingredients in our Deep Hydration Condtioner.
We are also starting to see it in skin care and facial products (even acne products -
which seems counterintuitive for an oil) as well. There is also a good reason for this.
Below we talk about three main uses for argan oil and give you a great recipe for
an argan oil intensive restorative facial treatment for night time :
1. Acne scarring treatment
2. Hair care
3. Anti-aging facial skin care
Argan oil is mostly known for its moisturizing qualities and hair-repairing benefits.
Which is why most people are surprised that argan oil is linked in any way to acne
treatment. After all, how could something that is used to infuse oil and moisture into
the hair be good for addressing something that is usually accompanied by
hyperactive sebum (the oil that is secreted to protect the skin) production?
Well, argan oil is mostly used for the treatment of acne scarring as well as for the
healing of existing lesions. There is really no evidence that it can actually stop acne
from forming like some other types of acne cleansers can do (see our preventive
natural acne soap).
Why is argan oil good for helping to heal acne scarring? Well, it contains large
amounts of linoleic acid, as well as large quantities of vitamin E. Both of these
nutrients are healing to the skin and help to reduce skin damage by assisting in
reducing free radical damage.
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It has been used as a treatment for wound
healing and abrasion care for many years now. It helps repair damaged skin and
may also help smooth acne scarring such as ice pick scars, pock marking and scrapes
that often occur from deep acne lesions.
Linoleic acid, as well as the saponin content of argan oil, help to soften the skin and
make it appear more radiant and supple. It may also help to reduce redness in
those that experience irritation. Many people use it for its anti aging properties due
to these super emollient qualities.
Saponins are a sort of natural detergent that are found in some plants. They are
found in abundance in the argan tree from which this oil comes from. The tree is
grown in Morocco, hence the name given to it as another trade name “Moroccan oil”.
You can use argan oil in small amounts as part of a healthy hair regimen. Some
people will squirt a tiny bit on their hands and use it alone as a moisturizer on the
hair after washing and drying.
It is also useful as an additive to conditioners as well as shampoos since it has a
great ability to absorb into the hair shaft and deposit its fatty acids and saponins
deep into the follicle for repair and moisture infusion.
It also helps to improve shine and manageability due to its ability to help increase
the flexibility of the hair, thereby reducing breakage. This in turn lessens the
appearance of frizz, increases the shine and improves the integrity of the structure of
the hair over time and with repeated usage.
Due to the high natural antioxidant content of the oil, it has excellent benefits for
use in anti-aging serums, lotions and creams for the face. It is also incredibly
useful simply on its own. The high content of vitamin e, which is one of nature’s most
potent antioxidants, synergizes well with the linoleic acid.
These components make it one of the best natural anti-aging oils to use on your
facial skin. Some people may find it feels too oily at first, but all it takes is a nice
massage in and your skin looks radiant and moist for the day. The massaging action
is a good thing – it means your skin is stimulated & absorbs the nutrients better.
Organic argan oil can run in the higher price range. However, it is well worth it if you
find the right supplier, as quality means everything when it comes to this oil. A little
goes a long way, and most who use it say it lasts them a while.
Of course, this depends on whether you are using it solely on your face or on your
facial skin and your hair. It is a multipurpose oil, which makes it a one-stop choice for
body & hair. It seems to have soothing properties, as well as healing properties for
acne scarring and for repairing skin damage due to aging.
Recipe time! Here's a Great Argan Oil Recipe
Night Time Soothing Restorative Argan Oil Facial Treatment
1 oz (6 teaspoons) organic argan oil
15 drops rose absolute essential oil
5 drops South African Chamomile (this has a very pungent but pleasant scent, it has
skin calming properties so it is great for night time use)
5 drops carrot seed essential oil
How to use this argan oil recipe on your face :
You will only need a small amount of this intensive oil for night time repair and
restoration. It is best applied at night because your skin tends to absorb things
better at night due to a higher body temperature and gains the full benefit of what
argan oil has to offer during this time period. Be sure to completely massage it in
until the face does not appear oily at all but supple and bright.

Argan oil may be mostly known for its excellent hair-quenching qualities, but its benefits are much more vast than just hair care.
